About

Prof. Ramesh Harjani was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and started his education in the British Primary School. He went to St. Xavier’s School Jawalakhel, Nepal and graduated with his “O-Levels” in 1976. He then received his B.Tech in EEE from the Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, India in 1982. He received his MTech in EE from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi in 1984, where he designed a 4-bit microprocessor the old-fashioned way, i.e., on paper. He got his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in ECE in 1989 in analog design automation.  He then worked at Mentor Graphics, San Jose till 1990 when he joined the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota. He cofounded Bermai, Inc, a startup company developing CMOS chips for wireless multimedia applications in 2001. He has been a visiting professor at Lucent Bell Labs, Allen Town, PA, USA and at the ARMY Research Labs, Adelphi, MD USA.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in the area of analog and RF circuits for communication systems with particular emphasis on CMOS designs. Current research efforts focus on the development of high-performance front-end component designs for broadband and multi-standard wireless systems and the development of next generation high-speed wired communication systems. Other research areas of interest include data converters, sensor interface circuits, analog circuit synthesis and micro-power analog circuit design.
